Board of Directors

The Board of Directors (the Board) governs the affairs of the New Brunswick Association of Real Estate Appraisers (the Association) and ensures the Association meets its duty to serve and protect the public interest, as set out in An Act to Incorporate the New Brunswick Association of Real Estate Appraisers (the Act).

The role of the Board is to provide leadership and oversight of the activities of the Association.  The Board is responsible to the members and the public and has the obligation to render an account for the responsibility conferred. 

The key responsibilities of the Board are as follows:

Strategy and Mission 

  1. Approve the Board’s strategic plan. 
  2. Monitor the Association’s progress towards achieving its strategic goals. 

Financial Oversight 

  1. Approve financial policies and internal controls and monitor compliance with them. 
  2. Stewardship and allocation of financial resources, through the review and approval of annual budget. 
  3. Monitor financial performance against budget.

Performance Management and Monitoring 

  1. Recruit, appoint and supervise the Registrar & Executive Director, including evaluating her performance. 
  2. Recruit, appoint, and supervise members of the Association’s Committees.
  3. Confirm that there are policies, programs, and controls in place governing the Registrar & ED and the Association’s Committees such that the Association carries out its statutory obligations appropriately and effectively. 
  4. Confirm that the Association has processes in place for measuring and reporting on its performance. 

Risk Management 

  1. Be knowledgeable about risks inherent in the Association’s operations and obtain assurance that there are measures in place to protect the Association against risk. 

Accountability to Stakeholders 

  1. Obtain assurance that the Association communicates appropriately and effectively with stakeholders and maintains effective relationships with them. 

Board Governance 

  1. Oversee the quality of its own governance and establish expectations, practices and policies to develop and maintain good governance.
