Membership Types

You can apply for one of 6 types of membership:

Regular members

Regular members are those members who are engaged in the practice of real estate appraisal.  Regular members are authorized to practice the profession in New Brunswick and have the right to vote and hold positions on the NBAREA Board and/or Committees. 

Associate Members (Assessors employed by Service New Brunswick)

Associate Members are qualified to engage in the practice of real estate appraisal but are not required to register under the Act to engage in such practice. Associate members are authorized to practice the profession in New Brunswick and have the right to vote and hold positions on the NBAREA Board and/or Committees.  

Temporary Members

Temporary membership permits registered real estate appraisers from other provinces or countries to engage in the practice of real estate appraisal for in New Brunswick a short period of time 3 months to work on a specific project.    Temporary membership may be extended for a period of 3 months, upon approval of the Committee of Examiners. Temporary members are authorized to practice the profession in New Brunswick but do not have the right to vote or hold positions on the NBAREA Board and/or Committees.  

Candidate Members

Candidate Membership is granted to applicants who are working towards CRA or AACI designation with the Appraisal Institute of Canada or working towards DAR designation with the Canadian National Association of Real Estate Appraisers.   Candidate members may only practice the profession under the supervision of a designated member of AIC or CNAREA.   Candidate members have the right to vote and hold positions on the NBAREA Board and/or Committees.

Retired Members

Retired members are members who are no longer engaged in the practice of real estate appraisal, but who wish to maintain an affiliation with the profession.    Retired members are not authorized to practice the profession and do not have voting rights.   Retired members are eligible to hold positions on NBAREA committees, but are not eligible for election to the NBAREA Board. 

Student Members

Student membership may be granted to students who are interested in or planning to pursue education as a real estate appraiser.  Student members are not authorized to practice the profession, therefore a person who holds candidate status with AIC or CNAREA is not eligible for student membership.   Students  do not have voting rights and are not eligible to hold positions on the NBAREA Board or committees.
