In order to practise real estate appraisal in the Province of New Brunswick you must become a “Registered” member of the New Brunswick Association of Real Estate Appraisers/Association des évaluateurs immobiliers du Nouveau-Brunswick (NBAREA/AEIN-B), pursuant to the New Brunswick Association of Real Estate Appraisers Act” which was approved by the Provincial Legislature and which came into effect on January 1, 1995.

Section 15(3) of the New Brunswick Association of Real Estate Appraisers Act provides an opportunity for a person to apply for “Temporary Registration” with the Association. Upon approval, the “Temporary Member” may practise real estate appraisal in the Province for a period of time specified by the Committee of Examiners. Currently, Temporary Registration usually comes into effect on the date the Application is approved and is valid for 12 months. Most often our “Temporary Members” are those appraisers who are not residents of New Brunswick but have been hired to complete a specific assignment in the Province.

As a “Temporary Member” of the Association you are not entitled to voting privileges, only the right to practise real estate appraisal in the Province.  “Temporary Members” are obligated to adhere to the Uniform Standards of Professional Appraisal Practise (USPAP) or the Canadian Uniform Standards of Professional Appraisal Practise, The New Brunswick Association of Real Estate Appraisers Act and the Bylaws of the Association.  Copies of these documents may be obtained from our Association office. The “Temporary Member” must also carry liability insurance coverage in an amount not less than one million dollars.

Please Note:  that the membership and the right to practise is conveyed only to the person approved and does not include anyone else who may be employed by the applicant’s firm/business.

 Section 15 of the Act provides four doors by which you may apply for “Temporary Membership”:

 1. You are a member of the Appraisal Institute of Canada (AIC) in good standing;

 2. You are the holder of the designation of Market Value Appraiser (MVA) – Residential from The Canadian Real Estate Association (CREA);

 3. You have passed examinations prescribed by our Committee of Examiners and have proved that you have sufficient experience in real estate appraisal to qualify for registration to practise;
